LIVING IN THE USA
1 Roberto Solano, aged 24, from Mexico
2 Roberto came from Acapulco to New York ten years ago.
3 At first he missed everything - the sunshine, the food, his girlfriend.
4 But now he has a successful business with his three brothers and his sister.
5 They run a soccer store in New Brunswick.
6 Roberto´s girlfriend is now his wife, and they have two children who go to American schools.
7 When asked why he came to the US, Roberto says without hesitation,
   ‘Because I want to work hard and be successful.‘
8 He certainly works hard.
9 He´s at the store all day, then works as a driver in the evening.
10 ‘That´s why I like America,‘ he says.  ‘You can be what you want.‘
11 ‘When I first came here, I didn´ t speak English, and it was winter.
12 It was so cold!
13 There was snow. Now nearly all my family are here, not only in New York, but also in California, and  in Texas.
14 We meet once a month and have a huge Mexican meal that takes about five hours !
15 We´re all happy here.'

LIVING IN THE USA

2 Endre is a mathematician at Rutgers University, New Jersey.
3 He came from Budapest thirteen years ago.
4 ‘I had an opportunity to come here for two years.‘
5 After a year, his wife came to join him, and since then they´ve had a daughter, so
   they decided to stay.
6 ‘At first it was very strange. Everything is so big here,‘ he says.
7 ‘I started to feel happy when I bought a car.
8 Now I go everywhere by car.
9 In Hungary, we only use the car at weekends, but here your car is part of your life.
10 Nobody walks anywhere.'
11 How does he find the people ?
12 ‘Very friendly. The first question everybody asks you is ‘‘Where are you from?‘‘
13 People talk to you here, they start conversation.
14 I like the fact that there are people from all over the world.'
15 What about the way of life ?
16 ‘The thing I like best is the independence.
17 Nobody tells me what to do.
18 Here you can do what you want, so you learn to make decisions for yourself.
19 I feel in control.‘

LIVING IN THE USA
1 Yuet Tung, aged 31, from Hong Kong
2 Yuet Tung is her Chinese name, but in English she´s known as Clara.
3 She came to the US eight years ago and studied fine art.
4 Now she works on Madison Avenue for a publisher.
5 She married a Vietnamese American three years ago, and they live in Long  Island.
6 They don´t have any children yet.
7 What does she think of living in New York ?
8 ‘It´s very similar to Hong Kong.
9 It´s a busy city, very exciting, and people walk very fast !
10 I like the stores here.
11 They´re huge and it´s cheaper than Hong Kong.
12 But you need a car here.
13 In Hong Kong everyone uses public transportation, because it´s good and it´s  cheap.
14 At first I hated driving here, but it´s OK now.‘
15 What does she like best ?
16 ‘The space.
17 Here I live in a house with a yard.
18 In Hong Kong it is so crowded.
19 And the people are friendly20 When I go jogging, everyone says, "Hi!"
21 And the food is from every country in the world.'
